Magic happens outside the comfort zone — a capitalist lie. Hello friends. I want to make a confession. If I ever said, "Magic happens outside of comfort zone", and you believed it, I want to redefine what it means to me now it and add more nuance. I recently relearned that you don’t have to have a nervous breakdown to achieve your goals. It makes more sense to develop a reliable support system that enables you to actualize your dreams. A world that constantly reminds us of vertical growth, forgets to tell us the importance of horizontal growth and no I am not talking about our waistline. It’s probably okay, if our blood reports are. You gotta keep listening to your gut, pun intended.
I am talking about the intangible goals like preserving your sense of self in the face of adversity, having three meals a day despite a broken heart and a hectic work schedule, aiming for a sleep cycle when social media algorithms are telling us tonstay awake and get high on our insecurities. And being able to feel emotions when you see a beautiful blooming flower in harsh cold winters. There is no 'MAGIC' that happens inside or outside of the comfort zone. We are the magic. We happen. We want to happen, we ought to happen and sometimes we cease to happen. There is also a great possibility that the comfort zone you want to leave, is in reality, an uncomfortable comfort zone. Oh yes, we are all guilty of smiling, ignoring and letting go of things that hurt the deepest corners of our soul. We collect pain like we collected tazzos in the 90s. We are all guilty of not saying what we really want to say, and not feeling what we really want to feel, to avoid conflict. We violate other people’s boundaries and let them do the same to us and we call it LOVE. We live in an uncomfortable comfort zone, we get used to it, we internalise it. We normalise it. But some of us cannot put up with it forever. The uncertainty is better than the familiarity for many of us, so we step out, looking for magic, or in other words looking for ourselves. That’s why when we find that spark by being uncomfortable enough, we realise, after a handful of rockbottoms, that we deserve that magic, even within the comfort zone. It’s the most nonsensical and profound detour of your life that you will ever take. And if you return without pants, consider it a successful trip.
